I was speaking to a neighbor this weekend and he mentioned that there is suppose to be a Jewel Food Store built in Coal City. He said it would be located near the Ace hardware on Division and Berta.
That neighbor is a little behind in their gossip. Jewel pulled out of that project over a year ago. The spot you mentioned was going to be a Walgreens but they to have decided not to come. For some reason the runors of all these businesses coming to diamond just won't die(probably because diamond town officals keep starting them!lol). In the past couple years we here heard,Jewel, Walgreens, Menards, a new ace hardware, Wendys, Berkot's, and many others. And they really have gotten nothing to speak of.
There won't be a Jewel coming to Diamond anytime soon. The last time they did come to the city hall they met the building inspector who was in his typical used Ma Bell t-shirts, shorts and workboot attire (with white socks). After listening to his arrogant ass attitude they decided to build other stores and come back when he is gone.
What is coming that's being built behind the ACE hardware store. Also, is there anything happening with the bank that the sign says is coming down near county line road at the edge of Diamond. It appears Diamond is slowly tearing down all the front trailers in the trailer park long 113.
In speaking with a reliable source, I was told that the Ace is moving into the newly constructed area and a Walgreen is going to move into the corner spot that ACE currently occupies. I guess their going to demolish the old Ace spot and rebuild for Walgreens.
To me, it sounds like it's all going to be a mini (and, I do mean mini!!) mall with just those two stores for now.

That was the original plan for sure. But apparently Walgreens pulled out when Diamond city officals ticked them off. I'm not sure what will replace the old Ace when the new one is done.
I had moved to coal city thinking in the near future, there will be shopping. It seems like that will never happen I am so disappointed.. It's not gonna be the end of the world,if we get some new shopping here I really regret moving here

Please move back to wherever you came from, we are perfectly content without Jewel or you for that matter.
Small town thinking comes from poor education and I guess that is evident here. Problem is that Wilmington is a backwards thinking and living in the 60's and happy about it.

I think the new Jewell will be finished the same day as the new Walgreens, when HELL FREEZES OVER!!!! Berkots will have their expansion done before those store ever break ground

I agree Jenny! My sister lives in Mokena and I went to the Berkots with her before a picnic we had, it's a nice store. We need something bigger here in Coal City and I would just as soon it be them. Jewel meat isn't very good and the prices are only good on sales. Something needs to be done to attract some shops to the downtown area.
Corner of Will Road and 113...will be a Walgreens, also in the "strip center" an Autozone, Grundy bank, fast food dual restraunt. Jewel is still a possiblity across from this center, but the roof tops must increase before they will break ground.

May I ask, where you got this info from??
It would be nice to get an Autozone in the area. I hate havin to travel to Morris for parts. I tried Napa Auto in Coal City and the kid there (owners son, i think) took my order on a in-warehouse part for next day pickup. He forgot to call it in and when I went to pick up the part, it was never called in or logged as ordered. I was pissed! I coud see if they were really busy but anyone who has shopped there know they rarely are. Never again, I said!
And, it stinks like smoke in the place. Looks like they don't follow the no-smoking ordinance.

Well Surface Ride Shop just opened.I feel they are an upscale shop. Not only do they have parts and accessories for motorcycles. They have clothing and shoes for my kids that the mall has, and at good prices. Beats wasting gas and driving to joliet for my kids skate shoes.
